Questions About Dubai Travel Visa For Indians

Mark asks…

dubai visa for an Indian national living in Portugal.?

I am an Indian living in Portugal with a valid residence permit. I would like to visit Dubai for a short period of 4 days and travel onward to India. I happened to read that a visit visa for Portuguese nationals are free and can be obtained upon arrival. There are currently no UAE embassies in Lisbon, but I being an Indian national need a visa before arrival in order to travel within Dubai. How do I proceed?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

admin answers:

On Arrival a 96-hour transit visa (Dubai Stop-over (DSO)) can be issued at Dubai International Airport provided passengers:
- continue journey to a third country through Dubai International Airport;
- hold return/onward tickets; and
- hold a pre-booked hotel reservation; and
- travel on at least one sector (inbound or outbound) on Emirates.
Fee: US$127.00

As Emirates passenger you also can apply for the visa online.

Alternately you can secure a transit visa through Marhaba Services on arrival.

Ken asks…

Anyone know if a visa is needed to get in dubai for indian citizen for 5 days trip?

Just planned a trip to Dubai, travelling from kuwaiti. Anyone know if a visa is needed to get into Dubai for Indain citizens? It will be a 5 days trip my 5 day trip.

Thanks in advance.

admin answers:

As an Indian National you need to obtain a tourist visa through a travel agency/hotel to enter the UAE.
Visa rules got changed in the UAE from 1st of August 2008. Now also GCC residents need a visa. Both kind of visas cost Dhs 100 + Dhs 10 delivery fees.

Take care.

Edit restless: please check the new visa rules for entering the UAE.

Donald asks…

Is transit visa for Dubai needed for an Indian if stopover in airport is 6 hrs & he doesn't exit immigration?

I am an Indian national and will be travelling via Dubai airport on an Emirates airport, and intend to stay in the airport only for about 4 hrs. I wanted to know if I would still need a transit visa?

admin answers:

Visa means permission to enter into a country or region. As you are not going to exit the immigration (a department that judge your eligibility to enter the country) so logically there is no need to get a transit visa. On the other hand as you are flying through Emirates Airline (they facilitate more than other airlines), they can allow you (without any fees) to go out of airport (enter UAE) to see your friends and relatives. But in your case your free time, 6 hours is too short to go outside as check in time is normally 3 hours. So they may not allow you.
There is too much inside the airport, Star hotel and shopping too.
So have a nice stopover.

Steven asks…

I am planning to travel from Dubai to Ecuador (Quito). Please advice the best, cheap & transit visa free route?

Actually I am residing currently in UAE - Dubai. And Ecuador is one great place to visit for adventure and that too, its having visa upon arrival for Indian citizens. The flights either touch, Heathrow London, or Amsterdam, or Spain or couple of cities in US - like Miami or TX.
In the forums I couldnt find the exact detail on if we require air transit visa if we travel through Amsterdam to Ecuador.
There are no transit visa currently in US. So travelling through US is impossible now. If someone has experienced this situation, please share it and advice me what excatly to do. I am planning a months travel to Ecuador / Brazil / Bolivia / Columbia. I am having no problems with Brazil visas and its easy for me to get. But the confusions is about transit visas and increase in flight rates when its going round and round touching all the countries.
Awaiting someones response. :)
Thanks
Raj
Actually, I tried KLM, and the route will be Dubai - Amsterdam - Quito (Ecuador) and return.

And in this forum, its said Indians don't require a transit visa to pass through.
http://www.immihelp.com/forum/showthread.php?p=35402

I am also seeing a couple of other forums which says, Indians do NEED a visa to pass through Amsterdam. So thats the reason behind confusion.

I just received a mail as reply to my questions regarding transit visa from Netherland Embassy.
Quote:
Indian nationals can transit without a visa in the Netherlands or other Schengen countries. In case you would like to visit the Netherlands or leave the airport during your transit you will need to apply for a Schengen visa. We always refer the travellers to contact the airline too.

Kind regards,

Now for those who like to travel to ecuador this would be a tip.

Ecuador is a visa free / on arrival country for Indians, however you need to pay 31$ on exit at the immigration. If you are travelling check for KLM (dutch airlines) which passes through Amsterdam - schipol airport, where transit visa is not needed for Indians.

I was checking the same for myself from Dubai to Ecuador. The flight was KLM
so Dubai - Schipol - Ecuador (quito - UIO) and it costs around 6800 dhs - 1850 US Dollars.

The only transit visa free route I was able to find is by KLM via Nairobi/Kenya, Amsterdam/the Netherlands, Bonaire/Netherlands Antilles, and Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Indian passport holders need Airport Transit Visa for the following countries of the European Union / Schengen zone: Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Slovakia, Spain, United Kingdom.
The may transit without visa via Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland provided they:
• arrive and depart from/to a non-Schengen country
• continue their journey to a third country on a connecting flight
• hold a ticket with confirmed seats for their next destination
• hold all documents required for their next destination
• have their luggage checked through to their final destination
• do not leave the airport transit area
A transit visa is also required for Canada and the United States.
Ecuador grants visa free entry for Indian tourists; for Bolivia you can obtain a visa on arrival at a fee of US$ 52; for Brazil and Columbia you will need to get a visa in advance prior to travel.

Added (based on additional details):
Don't use any commercial websites or forums but get the word of the Dutch Government.
Check on the Foreign Ministry's website for "Visa to the Netherlands", then select "Airport Transit Visa" and see the list of countries whose passport holders need a visa even for passing the international area of a Durch airport. India is not among them.
