Questions About Dubai Travel Specials

Betty asks…

Woman traveling alone to Dubai?

I would like to know if I travel to Dubai, would I be expected to wear anything special as I am not Muslim. Would it be expected of me to cover my head? I am traveling alone as I dont know anyone who is going that way.
The answers are wonderful. I was so worried. Thank you

admin answers:

No! Wear what you like - its hot so keep the fabrics cool

avoid short tight and revealing clothes as you will get some unwanted attention and it it will be much appreciated as well

evening can be quite dressy so do bring a bit of bling if you are heading out

Lizzie asks…

Hi i will be travelling from Chennai to Birmingham via Dubai in Emirates. What would be my baggage allowance.?

Is there any special allowances for Students?

admin answers:

No, there's no special allowances for students. The allowance depends on your class whether is 1st class-economy class.

You can check the baggage allowance at FAQ on the www.emirates.com. Please becareful understanding what is written there.

They allow 20kg maksimum for economy class. Excess baggage allowed until 32kg (but then you have to pay for this and its expensive. Around 12 kilos since they only tolerate 20kg).

But then again it depends on the airport, if they dont carry too much passengers they usually allow you to take more than 20kg for free.

I just had a bad experience with emirates just 2 days ago. I booked a roundtrip flight from Emirates. On my departure (from asia) i can take more then 20kg for free, but when my return trip, i only allowed to take 20kg. So i had to ditched my excess baggage around 8kg ;((

to be safe, call their local call center and ask about the baggage allowance so you can be more sure how much to take with.

Enjoy your flight;))

Donna asks…

why london? whats special over there?

Am in dubai, travelling to UK next week as a tourist, so can someone tell me....
1) whats special about LONDON ?
2)what are the best places to visit ?
3)Is it the right time to visit (climatewise)?
4)How to go ireland & scotland from there?
5)Is there any sight seeing agents?
6)And last how many days you require to see in and out of london?

Appreciate if someone could help me out...

thanks in advance

admin answers:

London is a fantastic city, with so much to see. You should start off with a tour just to get yourself orientated. There are open top buses which you can pick up just about anywhere. There is also a fab bike tour which operates from Queensway which is something a bit different. The number one thing to see is probably the Tower of London where you have the crown jewels and you should also see the changing of the Guard which is taking place every other day at the moment oh and Buckingham Palace is open too.

You should spend at least four or five days in London to see all the best bits.

To get to Ireland and Scotland I'd recommend a cheap flight as it's so much quicker. There are lots of places where you can book these trips in London.

Winter Clothes for Toronto during February?

Hello :)

I will be traveling to Toronto during the second half of February.
what type of clothing do I need to buy?
Will i need special type of boots and a special hat?
I am currently residing in Dubai and not sure there are stores over here that sell clothes suited for an extremely cold weather.
Are there outlets that sell fairly priced winter clothes @ Toronto Airport?

Thanks!

admin answers:

Do NOT buy clothes of any kind in a airport. Ridiculous prices.

Wait until you are here in Canada to buy.

Go to any shopping mall and go to a men's store. Ask the sales man to help you select some proper winter clothing, starting with a winter coat. Make sure that you point out that you are only visting Canada for a short period of time.

The three parts of the body that must be kept warm are, the feet, hands and head. The proper way to do that is to wear gloves , and a hat and good winter boots, while outside. Insulated gloves are available for about $10 CDN, a wool hat, that covers the entire head and the ears will cost $15 and a good pair of insulated winter boots will be about $80 CDN. Don't allow your self to be pushed to spend more than that, it isn't needed.

A good winter coat will be from 100 to 200 CDN dollars. Look for a windproof outer surface made of nylon, with a two layer inside, made of polar fleece synthetic fabric, with a hood and a 3/4 length body that comes down to your upper legs. Storm cuffs on the sleeves, to keep out the wind, and a two way zipper that allows you to open it to keep from getting TOO warm.

Remember that in winter all of our public buildings are heated to 21 C , so when you go into a building, take OFF the coat, and carry it on your arm, to keep from being too hot. Take of the hat and gloves, too, and put them in the pockets of the coat.

Look at what others are wearing each day, and check the TV weather reports ( in the early morning ) to learn what the day's temperatures will be later on. Find out what the "wind chill factor " will be. Wind chill is what "it feels like " when you combine the wind speed with the actual air temperature that day. Wind chill can hurt you, as it attacks exposed skin, and freezes it. Keep that in mind.

Are all food in Emirates Airlines Halal (in islamic condtion)?

Im going to travel in Emirates Airlines in economy class. I was wondering its an airline from middle east however dubai is high class. Are all the meals halal or do I have to order special muslim meal?
Thanks

admin answers:

The food is halal but alcohol is also served optionally. That's the case with Qatar Airlines, Gulf Air too. And I know Kuwait Airways doesn't serve alcohol.

I'm telling you this because I've found seen some folks get irked when their food is served alongside alcohol.

  1. I don’t know, I like to go on really different types of dates. Going someplace new or some new part of the city, something that’s not your average thing. Something where you just go have an adventure together.
